There is so much to discover and explore during October Half Term

It's great time for families and children to get to see some stunning Autumnal spots,


Visit the local beaches

The beaches in autumn are just the perfect way to connect with nature - take a walk, play in the sea (the water is still pretty warm(ish), wrap up for an autumnal picnic, take a boat trip, gaze at the horizon, enjoy the sunrise or do a spot of stargazing in the dark sky's of Pembrokeshire - Skrinkle Haven was voted one of the best beaches in Wales by The Sunday Times this year - well worth a visit.




Carew Castle

Carew Castle is just a 5 minute drive from The Little Retreat and has a number of events and activities on this Autumn. Follow their skeleton trail throught the castle, join the scary Halloween ghost tour or The Forest Fairy Friends on their journey to prepare the forest for winter. Fairy Blackberry and Incy Wincy Spider will be running an interactive workshop packed with games, dancing, storytelling, singing and Halloween fun for all ages. Join in the fun and come in fancy dress. Includes a spiders web craft pack for all children!



Visit Tenby

Just a 15 minute drive is the picturesque seaside town of Tenby known for its colourful coastal houses and vast beach - stop off at the iconic castle for a touch of history and afterwards head into town and explore the many eateries on offer. Caffé Vista for friendly service and a view to die for. There are so many great places to eat including Fecci’s traditional fish and chips which offer a gluten and wheat free batter, and fry them in a separate fryer. The Sand Bar off Upper Frog street, this great street food venue is also home to the Tenby Brewing Company’s craft beer.


In Lower Frog street try The Billy Can serving craft ales and lagers plus innovative bistro style meals. Near St Marys Church on High Street, you’ll find Umi offering a relaxed dining experience serving Japanese influenced dishes using the best fresh, free range & wherever possible, local ingredients.



Halloween Lights Of The Valley Train

Enjoy the delights of a steam train in bright, colourful lights this October & November at Gwilli Steam Train in Carmarthen


Take a day trip to Carmarthen and expect to see our vintage steam trains adorned with sparkling neon lights as it steams through South West Wales. Step on-board for a magical journey filled with lots of opportunities for photographs and social media posts. There will be some spooky goings-on too for those who enjoy a little suspense but these elements of the experience can be avoided if you prefer the simplicity of a beautifully-lit train ride.


Requested by popular demand, we will be running two trains each day at 16.00 and 18:00 on October 29th, 30th and 31st as well as November 2nd, 3rd and 5th.

Big Bang Weekend in Saundersfoot

An out of this world experience within Dark Sky Wales mobile planetarium. Explore the heavens in comfort whilst being guided around the vastness of our Universe.

Using lasers, our astronomers will take you around the night sky identifying the planets, constellations, galaxies and much, much more whilst all the time telling you the stories of the stars from ancient mythologies to modern day astronomical theories. The main course will then see you gazing through the telescope, spotting the bands of Jupiter the great Orion nebula and the otherworldly Andromeda galaxy.
